Happy Thursday, everyone! It’s one of those weeks where I can’t believe it’s already Thursday, but, at the same time, can’t believe it’s only Thursday. Have you ever had a week like that? I’m tired, I won’t lie, but, overall, it’s been a good week and I’ve gotten a lot done. I can see the finish line, but still have hours to go, so let’s kick today off right with some new music to hopefully keep us motivated and going until that light at the end of the tunnel.
“Junior Dragster” is the first single from Spacer’s second EP. Right off the bat, I fell in love with the grit and the grime behind the recording of this song. Don’t get me wrong, it’s recorded beautifully by recording engineer Robin Carmosino, but you can definitely feel that there’s something just a bit more raw and fuzzy about this recording. Normally, that may not work for a song, but in the case of Spacer, it works perfectly. Spacer’s sound, specifically in this track, feels very DIY garage-rock with tentacles that flow out to various other vibes ranging from alt-rock to grunge. The powerful vocals crash with the drums to create a sense of tension throughout this song, but the guitars and the way they create movement behind everything happening make it feel oddly smooth in a way.
