I was doing good there for a minute. I had somehow found the motivation to get stuff done and got absolutely in the zone, but in the blink of an eye, that motivation was gone, and I feel like I’ve just been staring blankly at my computer for the past five minutes. I need to snap out of it (or snap back into it, depending on how you want to look at it), so I’m hoping that taking a break and checking out “Dissociate” from Mean Bikini will help me.
Mean Bikini seems to be turning heads in Canada lately with how much they tour and write. After hearing their song “Dissociate,” I think it’s safe to say that it’s just a matter of time before they start conquering the U.S. punk scene. This song is fast and punchy but is full of emotion and heart. The band says that this song is about leaving your body while having a panic attack, and, honestly, I think that’s the best way to describe this song. It’s chaotic and intense. Insane highs are contrasted by subtle lows, creating a sense of panic and urgency that, if you suffer from panic or anxiety attacks, you know all too well. The way that Mean Bikini was able to put this familiar-to-me feeling into a song is insane, and it’s just what I need for those days where there’s no avoiding a panic attack. Sure, “Dissociate” sounds like pure chaos to the untrained ea,r but to me, this was nothing short of blissful calmness for my mind.
