I’m not a “In It For The Money” type of person. There’s a running joke in my family that we work for free. It’s not something to be proud of but it’s just something that we tend to do. You want me to volunteer? Sure! You want help with a little photo shoot? Absolutely! What’s the charge? I mean, for you, nothing. That’s the way it typically goes but I am trying to change that. I know my time and work is worth something so I’m trying to make it ever so slightly about the money but that’s truly not why I do what I do. This really has nothing to do with this new song from Casey Kiernan but, as always, just a little insight int what I’m thinking about when it comes to check out this song.
Although Casey has been releasing music for a long time at this point, this is the first song I’ve heard from him but it surely won’t be the last. I’ll be honest, I would have loved a bit more angst sprinkled somewhere in this two minute and forty second song but I came for the grit and stayed for the heart that reigns supreme throughout this song. Stylsitically, I would call this a gritty and grungy 90s alternative kind of song. There’s something so simple yet so perfect about the chorus of “In It For The Money.” Another perfect thing about this song is the lyrics. They are crafty and sneaky as they point out just the overall silliness of money and capitalism. Okay, I’m super paraphrasing there but take a listen and let the words guide you through this truly amazing and anthemic journey that is “In It For The Money” from Casey Kiernan
