I don’t think it will take you that long to figure out what drew me to this new song from Good Night Moon. I preach how music is my therapy– my drug. I truly do not know if I would still be on this planet if it weren’t for music so, yeah, you could say that “Music Is My Medicine.” I know I’m not the only one that feels this way but it’s been a hot minute since I’ve heard a song that acts as the perfect ode to music. Enter: Good Night Moon.
I don’t know what Good Night Moon has been doing for the past twenty years but I know that this is their first single back after the epic hiatus and I am just so glad that they are here. Truthfully, I had never heard of this band before but, after just one listen to “Music Is My Medicine,” I know that I will be going on a journey through everything else I can find from this Florida emo band later on today. This song is dark but not in the usual sense. The darkness in this three minute long song comes from the emotionally charged lyrics of this song about survival, nostalgia, and, you guessed it, the healing power of music. There’s something urgent-feeling about parts of this song but there are also moments in the track that will leave your head in the clouds with melody and power. “Music Is My Medicine” is a gut-punch of emotion but it’s a welcome one and one that will stay with you well after this song is over.
