Girl at the Rock Shows

This morning is flying by. It started of slow and steady. I was able to get my review of last night’s show up and published, able to catch up on my day job and just when I was starting to get caught up on everything else, fires started popping up at my day job. In a matter of just a few emails and a few calls, I feel the familiar sense of drowning and I hate it but I’m determined to not let it get the best of me. The sun is shining, GWAR is in town tonight, today is going to be a good day and I just need music like “Money Mouth” from Penny-Sleeve to help me remember that.

The third single from Penny-Sleeve’s EP ‘Face Value,’ “Money Mouth” is the kind of song that has so much swagger and grit that it’s impossible to not fall in love with this band and song. There’s something super punky and rebellious about this track but, what makes it stand out is the fact that Penny-Sleeve stays in control of the track the whole time. There’s something almost calming about the grit that comes through loud and clear in the vocals that I can’t quite put my finger on but I also can not get enough of. This song isn’t fast or furious yet there’s an electrifying energy that persists throughout all nearly four minutes that this song last. From moments that reminded me a bit of old school Get Up Kids to something a bit more tried and true in the vein of Social Distortion, I love how Penny-Sleeve seems to bring a new twist to the game while paying homage to all the great bands before them.
