I have scrubbed my hands and my face more times than I’d like to admit but I still see the remnants of last night’s GWAR show all over. My skin is stained red, my head is still pounding, and my legs still feel like Jell-o. This all sounds miserable, I know but, honestly, I’m wearing this tired, broken and dirty look and feel like a badge of honor. Life doesn’t stop just because of the epic-ness that was last night’s show but I’m having a hard time getting into work. Maybe taking a quick breather to check out “Wounded” from Ricky Camp will help.
“Wounded” is perfectly thrashy and expertly energized. It’s a relatively sad and somber song when it comes to the lyrics which talk about being hurt by someone you love but, really, I get more frustration than pain in this song. I’m not frustrated this morning (well, maybe frustrated that I can’t get this red dye out of my skin) yet this song spoke to my soul. It’s cathartic with the way the energy and power of this track takes you over. I love how the overall vibe of this track is raw but the production gives it a very polished kind of presentation. I’m not typically one that mentions the production of a song because, for me, the feeling and energy of a track is much more important but I was completely capitvated by just how flawless this song sound. It’s crisp and clean but, within that, there’s no shortage of raw power. It’s a delicate balance that Ricky Camp and everyone involved in recording this single absolutely nailed making it a song that is more than worth your time this early Wednesday morning.
