There are a lot of amazing shows coming to the Twin Cities in the next couple of weeks. One of those is High Fade who will be playing at The Fine Line on May 13th. I know there’s a lot going on that night but I think that after just one listen to “The Jokes On You,” you’ll realize that this is the show to be at that night.
The first thing that had me hooked into this song is the groove. It’s definitely funk-based but there’s something more to this track than just funk. There’s rock, there’s a slight hip-hop vibe and there’s an electrifying undertone throughout this nearly three-minute song that radiates energy and positivity. There are moments of this song that definitely remind me of Rage Against the Machine and others that have more of a Viagra Boys styled grit to them. All of these things come together in “The Jokes On You” to give you a sound that can only be described as High Fade. You know when you hear a song and you just have to see it live, this is one of those. The energy that comes through this recorded single is insane so I can only imagine what seeing them perform this song (and other tracks) live will be like.
