The skies over Minneapolis are definitely blue right now, but it’s not a bright kind of blue. More of a warning kind of blue as in a warning of the storms that may or may not hit this afternoon. It’s not super lovely, but it’s a blue sky nonetheless, so I feel like now is the perfect time to check out “Blue Skies” from lovelost.
This song feels like relief. I know that may sound strange to read or even say but that’s what this song feels like. It’s so joyous and, as the band puts it, “captures that moment right after you’ve pushed through something heavy. The emotional thaw from a long, cold stretch into something hopeful. It’s a high-energy, emotionally honest pop-punk/emo track that balances vulnerability with a sense of release.” That’s a feeling that I didn’t know was possible to put into a song, but lovelost has done it perfectly. The song starts off fun and lighthearted, and although it remains that way throughout the three minutes and twelve seconds that it lasts, there are those split seconds of pure angst that really highlight the feeling of release. If I had to classify this song as a style, I would say that it leans pop-punk, but, really, this isn’t a song that you classify by genre, it’s a track you classify as a feeling, and that feeling is pure perfection.
