I have a candle going along with a load of laundry and a load of dishes. A nostalgic playlist is playing throughout my house at top volume. That’s right, people, it’s cleaning day here at the Girl at the Rock Shows house. I may not want to do it, but I need to do it, so instead of putting it off, I’m just going to get it done, but I need some new songs to interfere with the comfort that is these nostalgic playlists, and I know just where to start.
Every song I hear from The Jack Knives makes me fall more and more in love with this band, with their new song “La Sirena” being no exception. This song is an escapist song. It’s about running away and “getting out of here tonight.” Although I don’t want to go anywhere, I loved how this song made me forget about the pile of work sitting on my desk and seemed to give me the motivation to get the things done around my house. It’s a punky little tune with a lean into something a bit more folksy. Think Gaslight Anthem or Dave Haus. The band calls this song “equal parts uplifting and powerful.” I don’t typically like to just copy what bands send me when they send me a single, but truthfully, that’s the best way to explain this song. No matter what you’re doing today, spend some time with “La Sirena” from The Jack Knives to keep a smile on your face while doing whatever it is.
