Girl at the Rock Shows

I know that The Carolyn doesn’t need my press. Honestly, this band seems to be blazing a trail in the pop-punk-leaning punk world, and my little blog isn’t necessary for them to continue to do so, but they sent me yet another single, and it’s another one that instantly caught my ear and my heart, so I’m going to share it with you. If you’ve already heard of The Carolyn, you surely have them on your daily playlist, so just keep on keeping on; but if you haven’t heard of this band, prepare to become obsessed.

With a title that calls back to the cinematic masterpiece that is ‘Hot Rod,’ “life’s short. stunt it. (jfc),” this song is about everything I crave when I listen to a song while sitting at my desk. It’s about burnout, escapism, and that desire to just throw everything away and start new. Although I don’t want to throw everything away, there are definitely parts of my life that I wish were different, but I know that right now, changing them is not the best idea. This song came in and swooped up those broken feelings and put them into a super catchy song in such a perfect way. With a little Joyce Manor meets The Menzingers vibe, The Carolyn somehow made me want to laugh, cry, smile, and sob all at the same time. There’s a raw honesty in this song that spoke to my soul, and the self-deprecating lyrics spoke to my own twisted sense of humor. Long story short, this is the only song I need for the rest of the day.
