For those of you who are new to my blog, I don’t just share new music. I also share music that may not have gotten its time to shine when it came out, or music that I feel, although not new, hits just the same. As I often say, if something is new to me, it’s bound to be new to some of you, so that’s why my next song for the day (“Black Roses” from Dead Soul Revival) is five years old. Sure, it’s not new and shiny, but it’s new to me and absolutely caught my attention the first time I heard it.

Truthfully, it took me a second to really get into this song. Judging by the first few seconds of the track, I figured this would be your typical pseudo-dramatic radio-rock kind of single and, honestly, I’m not wrong about that, but something about Dead Soul Revival’s delivery had me hooked. There are elements of everything from grunge to hard rock to even a slightly plain commercial rock kind of vibe to this track. What makes it spectacular is the way the band weaves all of those sounds together to create something super unique and fresh. Being that Dead Soul Revival is a new-to-me band, I’m not sure what this Los Angeles-based band has been up to over the past five years, but I know that after spending some time with “Black Roses,” I plan on taking some time to figure it out and see what else this band has out there.
