Girl at the Rock Shows

Things have definitely calmed down up here in the Twin Cities since the insane, hostile takeover that was Metro Surge, but things still aren’t normal for a lot of people throughout the city. I don’t know that they ever will be. That’s why I got a “Fuck Ice” tattoo (sorry mom and dad). I know it’s brash and probably a little impulsive to get those words tattooed on me, but it marks a time in my life that changed so much for this entire community I call home. Although a terrible and tragic time, I feel like so much amazing art came out of everything that we experienced firsthand up here in the Twin Cities and across the country. Case in point: “Fuck ICE” by Dinner With Myself.

Hailing from Dinner With Myself’s first-ever EP, “Fuck ICE” is an angsty anthem that is wholly a fuck you to the entire ICE movement. It’s gritty and angsty as it should be but there’s a melody here that will definitely get stuck in your head. Dinner With Myself showcases a sound that feels a little light, like Green Day, with something just a bit harder and with more of a 90s punk influence before it. The way this band blends these two very contrasting sounds together within this quick, two-minute-long song is as genius as the message behind it. I don’t know much about Dinner With Myself, but I know that if this is the song they are hitting the scene with, we can go ahead and expect some amazing things from this group.
