Is it too early to put Halloween decorations up around the house? Asking for a friend. The sudden shift to cooler, fall-like weather has me feeling cozy and ready to start celebrating spooky season, but it’s still September, so I ask again: is it too early to put up my Halloween decorations? This has nothing to do with “Bad Faith” from Nothing Gold Can Stay but it’s where my mind is right now and I really need to bring it back down to earth so I can keep on getting work done so hopefully taking a break to check out this song can help with that.

We all go through times when we shut people out. Maybe it’s on purpose, maybe it’s not, but it happens, and sometimes you don’t realize it until you’re deep in a lonely and dark hole. That’s what this song is about. It doesn’t shame you for falling into those holes or anything like that, but more makes you realize that it’s just something that happens and you have to be able to find your way out of said holes to survive. It may feel a bit uncomfortable climbing back out, but trust me and trust Nothing Gold Can Stay; it’s worth it. I love how this song seems to move with the movement that comes with falling into and eventually climbing out of the aforementioned hole. The song grows, but with this feeling of almost one step forward, two steps back, as if it’s trying to give you the feeling that happens when you finally decide to come out of your hole. The rise is subtle, but by the end of this emotionally charged four-minute and thirteen-second song, you realize just how much progress you have made, and you don’t just see the light at the end of the tunnel; you feel it.
