What does it mean to be “That Girl”? What even is “That Girl”? I honestly don’t have an answer to you but I know that that’s what I am going to strive to be after hearing this amazing single from Pink Triangle.
“I Wanna Be That Girl” is Pink Triangle’s Romeo & Juliet story. Well, kind of. As the band puts it, “The song offers a unique POV, relating the experience of a queer person, in the closet and in love with his straight best friend, feeling jealousy for his friend’s girlfriend because she’s the one that gets to be with him.” Love and love lost in a way, tortured feelings in another, “I Wanna Be That Girl” is full of drama when it comes to the storyline but the actual song itself is crystal clear. It’s a classic and singable kind of song that feels like just a standard rock song with elements that make it shine. Pink Triangle has the perfect amount of fuzz behind this song to give it a bit of a retro kind of hue but their energy keeps it feeling fresh and danceable. Whether you can relate to the words or just want to get lost in a super cool kind of vibe, “I Wanna Be That Girl” will have you sold. This is the second single from Pink Triangle and there is promise of more singles and even a full album in the near future so throw this band a like and show them some love. There’s so much more to come from them and I can’t wait to hear what that is.
