I don’t have an intro for you right now. Clearly, I’m just on a mission to get through as much work as I possibly can this morning and, to help keep me going, I am constantly checking out new songs that have me hooked like “The Gammons Lament” from Bureau De Change.
The song is abrasive, thrashy, gritty, and perfect. It’s a rage-fueled anthem against the rich and powerful. A song that reminds you that you are just a pawn in the scheme of things and, unless you stand up and fight back, you will never be anything more than that. It’s a little daunting, a little bit of a downer, and definitely causes some existential dread-type thoughts, but with the help of the power that radiates from this song by Bureau De Change, you don’t feel so alone and, in turn, the idea of life becomes just a bit more digestible. Call it post-punk, call it punk, call it what you want; “The Gammons Lament” is a protest song and anthem for modern-day.
