Girl at the Rock Shows

As so often happens with Mondays, I’m running out of time. I had grand plans to get so much done this morning and spend time with so much new music, but it’s already almost lunch, and I feel like I’ve done neither. I don’t know where my head is at today, but I’m frustrated with it and need to get in the game. Maybe checking out “Upside Down” from Stone Cold Sweethearts will help.

“Upside Down” from Stone Cold Sweethearts is indie-rock perfection, which I know isn’t typically what I share with you because, quite honestly, I think the indie rock genre is a bit overplayed and oversaturated, but this song had me hooked. I love how the band draws you in with a brief intro and clears the space before Stone Cold Sweethearts (or SCS, as they are often abbreviated) hits you with a super infectious, super bright track. Although it’s a beautifully polished track, there’s grit that comes through here and there in this three-and-a-half-minute song, giving it just the right amount of angsty edge. I wouldn’t call this pop-punk or punk, but I would say it leans into those genres from time to time, so while it’s indie-rock perfection, SCS offers so much more than that with this song.
