Manor Gates – “Smooth Cortex” - Girl at the Rock Shows

I feel like I keep losing my concentration today. I’ll be getting a lot done and then get sidetracked by something small and stupid. It’s becoming a bit frustrating and I really need something that will ground me ever so slightly so I can get through the day. That’s where “Smooth Cortex” from Manor Gates comes in.

The first single from Manor Gates’ upcoming album, “Smooth Cortex” hit my like a ton of bricks with the energy the band brings to this track within the first few seconds. Even as this song settles into it’s modern pop-punk vibe, the amount of energy throughout the four minutes and fifteen seconds is absolutely stellar. “Smooth Cortex” is about feeling frustrated over a situation. Even though it’s a completely different situation than I find myself in right now, I felt like I could relate to the frustration in the story and the frustrated feeling that comes with the words and overall vibe of this song.

If you’re not a lyrics person like I am, check out the awesome guitar work in this track. It’s almost subtle with everything that’s going on in this song but Manor Gates has a very cool almost math-rock feeling swagger to their guitar playing which I found absolutely irreisistable.
