Happy Monday! I hope you all had a good weekend. I did but have been, and continue to be, sitting on pins and needles waiting for my bestie to have her baby. It sounds like we are getting close which means my mind is everywhere except for work but, with an impending trip to Las Vegas this coming weekend, I really need to buckle down and work so I need some motivation to get at it. “Hostage” from Lamps Required is giving me said motivation.
The first even official single from Lamps Required, this song is full of silky smooth vocals and complicated yet easy-to-listen-to instrumentation. Stylistically, this song is best described as jazz-punk. It has a clear angsty edge to it but the overall composition is from from punk. It has more complicated patterns both in the notes and beat throughout the song making it intriguing and interesting. Vocally, I was getting a bit of a Circa Survive vibe just due to the tone but that may be stretching it a wee bit. Regardless of what comparisons you draw when listening to this four minute and twenty second song, I’m sure you will fall in love with Lamps Required just like I did.
