Girl at the Rock Shows

Group chats are the worst. They stress me out and the constant buzzing of my phone is a distraction. Sure, I could put my phone on silent and mute the chat but then I’ll miss the conversation. I know, first world problems but, as my phone continuously buzzes, I am trying my best to just keep going with work and getting stuff down. Add the fact that my brain is just not all in today with Sparkle Farts (my youngest cat) being at the vet for his neutering and you are left with one of those ADD kinds of days where nothing seems to help me focus but I won’t let that stop me. I need a distraction from the distractions and music is my distraction of choice.

“WTFU” from Some Gifts wastes no time pulling you into this band’s world. The song kicks off strong and the energy remains high throughout all three and a half minutes of this explosive track. This song is a political track but, I have to be honest, with how all over the place my brain seems to be, politics are the last thing on my mind. Thankfully, this song is much more than just the lyrics, I really can not understate the swagger-induced energy here. “WTFU” is angsty and raw with a very fist in the sky feel to it. Some Gifts already has four albums and two EPs out but this is the first I’m hearing of this California-based band. I’m not sure how they have flown under my radar for so long but they absolutely have my attention now and I can not wait to spend the rest of this weird day digging into their other material.
