Premiering a track is one of my favorite things to do. Premiering a debut track from a brand new band is, well, it leaves me speechless so, although I’m stoked to share “Icon” from Splendid Torch with you, I find myself a little lost for words.
The beauty within “Icon” will surely knock you right on your butt in all of the right ways. Beauty exudes from everything including the vocals and the instrumentation. Although this song is definitely more bluegrass than I tend to go for, there’s something super playful about this song that I just could not get enough of. When you add the raw heart that drenches every word and note of this song, you are left with one of those tracks that just stops you and makes you appreciate the beauty and passion within it while reminding you of that passion and beauty that you may be hiding inside of yourself. It’s funny that this is what listening to this song made me feel because, as you will see from this quote from Lily Sexton of Splendid Torch, “Icon” is about “just trying to keep the light on inside me”.
