My day honestly started great but it hasn’t stayed that way. It’s one of those days where I’m just crabby and, because of that, I can’t seem to get my head above water as far as work is concerned. I’m looking forward to getting off of my day job, taking a quick nap, and just resetting before my show tonight, but I still have a few hours before I can do that. I need a reset like now, so let’s take a break and check out a new song from 40 Lashes.
“Left Out” is the first release from 40 Lashes new EP ‘Cheer On, Rock On, Party On’ and it seems to embody all of those things with an extra service of post-hardcore leaning punk angst. This song is a little abrasive, but it’s comforting at the same time. The vocals have an almost bark to them that feels a bit more aggressive than you would expect, but they stop short of being intimidating. It’s a very cool balance and definitely one of the many things about this song that instantly got me hooked on this New England punk band. Another thing that got me hooked was the beat. It’s fast but not furious. It comes at you with strength and almost a hardcore base leaving you with a song that will perk up even the most tired of people. The more I listen to this track, the more I hear a slight and subtle pop-punk influence which has just added to my love for this track and band. Take a listen to “Left Out” and tell me what you hear (other than pure perfection!).
