I feel like seeing the artwork for “SO SAD !” from Heavy Sweat re-triggered me. I talked about how much I disliked the artwork when I shared “Eyelids” from this band but how I was able to look past it because the song was just so dang good. What are the chances that this band can do the same thing twice? Is their new song “SO SAD !” going to be another one where I’m able to just close my eyes, ignore the artwork, and fall even deeper in love with this band?

Spoiler alert: The answer is YES! The second single off of Heavy Sweater’s debut album, “SO SAD !” goes through waves of emotions and vibes so perfectly. The song starts off with an acoustic intro before you get hit in the gut with a power pop portion of the song. Eventually, the track fades into a more shoegaze-leaning outro. Out of all of these movements that make up this nearly four-minute song, the power of the power pop portion absolutely grabbed my attention. There’s a slight surf rock influence to it and even a tiny hint at a more Midwest emo tone. It’s ear-grabbing, attention-getting, and oh-so-perfect. I love the way that this band is able to give you a slight edge of angst within their overall positive-feeling sound and that comes through loud and clear throughout this track. Sure, I don’t like the album artwork but I absolutely love this band. Maybe you will too! Check it out and show Heavy Sweater some love!
