Although I have the rare and often sought-after talent of falling asleep within seconds of lying down on my bed, I don’t get much sleep. I’m not sure what it is, but according to my watch, I average about three and a half hours of sleep a night. I’ve gotten used to is and seem to have come to terms with my perpetual exhaustion, but today is a rough one, and there’s nowhere I want to be more right now than my bed. It’s these reasons and more why “HARD2SLEEP” from Speakers is hitting me so perfectly on this Wednesday mid-day.
“HARD2SLEEP” really has very little to do about sleep. It’s a super touching track about how this world is so messed up but that you can still hold onto any shred of optimism and sunshine that you can possibly find and not feel bad about that. The poignant lyrics of this track are highlighted by the vocals come off as everything from soft and tender to desperate and chaotic. With an instrumentation that matches both of these worlds perfectly, Speakers not only highlights their unique emo-leaning pop-punk rooted alt-rock sound in this song, but also the sheer power that they can pack into a song. At four and a half minutes long, you have plenty of time to fall in love with Speakers listening to this one track but I highly suggest spending some time with the other stuff they have out there. It’s all glorious and absolutely worth your attention and love.
