It’s been almost a year since I first heard of Neighbor Dog. Their single “Moon Bear” stuck with me but, although local, I feel their name hasn’t come up since then and, sadly, I kind of forgot about them. Their new single “Move On” was a super quick reminder that this is a band to not sleep on and, ultimately, one that can not be forgotten.

I soon as I hit play on this new single from Minneapolis-based Neighbor Dog, it was like falling in love for the first time all over again. This song is angry and it’s aggressive, which is a slight departure from what I got in “Moon Bear,” but I’m here for it. Juxtaposing the intensity and aggressive nature of some of this song are moments of pure dazzling bliss. Math-rock-styled guitars matched with Midwest emo vocals create a highlight in an otherwise angry song. The give and take between these two ideas is intense and, at times, almost shocking as the band moves from light to dark but that’s part of the magic of this band. They aren’t afraid to wear their emotions on their sleeves and you can hear that with every passing beat of this explosive new single.
