My optimistic outlook for today is starting to fall due to one single customer. The audacity of this woman has me ready to pull out my hair, cuss her out, flip my desk, and proceed to see myself out of this job. None of that is going to happen. I’ll, naturally, bite my tongue and only slip subtle jabs and stabs into my strongly worded emails. None of this has anything to do with “Celebrate” by Cleansweep but it just kind of shows you how desperate I am for a celebration of any sort at this point.
Cleansweep is the kind of band that takes in influences from all kinds of genres ranging from pop-punk to emo to all the over in the alt-rock world. You can hear that throughout this beautifully calm and peaceful yet highly energized four-minute single. “Celebrate” starts with a dazzling, almost midwest emo style guitar lick before shooting into something slightly more aggressive and desperate for the chorus that brings in those more alt-rock tendencies that Cleansweep has. Although I found myself in love with the twinkly guitarwork that persists throughout this song, it was the vocals that really caught me. Truthfully, it wasn’t the words. I’m a bit stressed right now and concentrating on words is just not my forte but I loved the ebb and flow of intense emotion that I was getting from the vocals. I felt my heart breathing along to them in a strange way. When the vocals would edge into more intense, my breathing would speed up but, when they fell back into a sense of calm, my breathing, in turn, would calm as well. Dramatic? Maybe. But I think it’s the sign of the insane power and talent that is showcased in “Celebrate” from Cleansweep.
