Girl at the Rock Shows

Having to miss the day job on Wednesday due to being snowed in sucked. Having to miss my show on Wednesday night due to the super bad road conditions and the fact that I drive a little tic-tac sucked even more. By the time I woke up on Thursday, I was ready to get back to work and get back to shows-ing. Now it’s Thursday morning and I’m slowly digging myself out of the hole I created from missing a lot on Wednesday. Do I really have time to check out some music right now? Honestly, no, but it’s the only thing that keeps me sane so let’s start the day off right with “Cul de Sac” from Batterfly.

There’s a beautiful symmetry behind this song from duo Batterfly. It’s a very charming and soft-spoken track in a way but there’s a fire that comes through with every beat. Stylistically, this song is most easily put into the alt-rock category but I loved the slight reggae style that I got from the track. It has a very smooth groove behind the instrumentation and the way the vocals seem to just float on top really adds to the chill nature of the track. That fire I speak of is subtle but also impossible to miss. It’s also impossible to target where it comes from but that’s not the point. The point is that this song soothed my stressed-out soul perfectly while giving me the motivation to not get overwhelmed by the pile of work sitting in front of me today and that’s exactly what I needed.
