My boss warned me not to open the bag of pretzels I brought into work because of how addicting they are. I didn’t listen to him because, come on, they are just pretzels. Was I really going to go unconscious on them? I should have listened. Now I’m handfuls of pretzels in, and I can feel a stomachache starting to grow. This has nothing to do with “Indigo” from Watch Me Rise but is just a little insight into how my day is going.

“Indigo” from Watch Me Rise seems to be just as addicting as these pretzels. I’ve had in on repeat for a little bit now just trying to find the right words to describe this track to you but I keep losing my thoughts as I get lost in this song. It’s a heavy post-hardcore song full of poignant lyrics that seem to hit a bit too close to home for me. Stylistically, the lyrics are primarily shouted in the vein of bands like La Dispute and Touche Amore but there are moments of more sung styled words and phrases that seem to add to the constant contrasting ebb and flow of the show. Although the vocals instantly hooked me, there’s no ignoring the emo-leaning instrumentation happening behind them all. It adds a sense of simplistic depth to this track that makes everything shine just a bit brighter. If you’re looking for something to shake you down to your soul, “Indigo” from Watch Me Rise is the song for you.
