I felt like the oldest one at the show I was at last night. Although part of me liked that, the other part of me was really feeling like a fish out of water and wondering if I was getting too old to do this night after night. I needed a sign that age is just a number and, in the world of music, that number means nothing. I got that sign this morning from Westall 66’s new single, “Good Bad News.”

Westall 66 is a band composed of self-proclaimed “elder emo punk rock dads.” Although I can’t relate to the “dad” part of that, I can relate to the rest of that statement, and it spoke to my soul this morning in such a perfect way. “Good Bad News” is the title track from Westall 66’s brand new EP that just launched, so if you like what you hear in this powerful single, I highly suggest you check out the EP as a whole. Although there’s no shortage of energy or angst in this song, I love how something about it feels oddly laid back. The beat isn’t furious, and the beats aren’t fast, yet this song breathed a sense of life into me that I so needed right now. Whether you’re looking for a sign that age truly is just a number, or just want to hear a fresh take on a classic sound, “Good Bad News” from Melbourne’s Westall 66 is the song for you.
