Girl at the Rock Shows

The lengthiness of this song title not only brought a slight smile to my face, it had me thinking that this track from squall. would be a bit of a pop-punk jam. I mean, we all know that pop-punk songs are known for wordy titles that have nothing to do with the actual song so it’s only fair that my head went there, right? Although I may have been drawn to this track due to the title and the need for a pop-punk pick-me-up, I stayed because of the sheer power that comes through loud and clear throughout this track.

“0% Experience in Making My Own Decisions (Set Me Free)” is a song about breaking free from everything that weighs you down. It’s about making a decision and moving on. In my family, we quote a portion of the Talmud (a sacred Jewish passage) at every get-together. One of those lines is “When you are faced with a decision, make the decision as wisely as possible – then forget it. The moment of absolute certainty never arrives.” I loved the way that this song from squall. reminded me of those words while blasting me in the gut with an insane amount of emotional power. Stylistically, this song brings you back to the emo metalcore of the early 00s (think Poison The Well and Alesana) but something about the perfection of the recording quality of this track reminds you that it is a fresh and modern take on that classic song. We all have to make decision and they can be impossible ones at times. Thankfully, we have 0% Experience in Making My Own Decisions (Set Me Free)” from squall. to lean on when those decision-making moments come up.
