My head is not in the game right now. I will be a real live aunt in mere days, maybe hours, at this point. Although I’ve been “auntie” to many kids, this is the first time it will be my flesh and blood, and I truly could not be happier for my little brother and his beautiful and amazing wife. It has my mind racing. What do I do? Do I go to the hospital and act as a support system or is that smothering? Do I go ahead with my life like nothing is happening and just wait for an invite? Again, my head is not in the game but I am also getting slaughtered with work so I need to pull it together. I’m hoping that checking out a new song will help me do just that.
Now that I know what the missing letter is in the band name H_ngm_n (it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure it out), I feel like I can truly appreciate this band for all that they have to offer, including their fourth single from their debut album, “Nothing Personal.” Honestly, this song hit me so perfectly at this moment. There seemed to be waves of conflicting emotions, crashing sound, and it just seemed to match my almost manic energy that I am trying to keep under wraps at the moment. Beyond those swells of power and emotion that hit me back to back, I fell in love with the peaceful comfort and solace that comes from the super smooth vocals of this band. Although this is absolutely an emo-leaning kind of song, I love the fact that this band isn’t afraid to explore different scenes and vibes. From a slight and subtle post-hardcore intensity to an almost pop-punk leaning break here and there throughout this almost four-minute-long song, H_ngm_n fits so much into this song but also does it so flawlessly, creating a seamless journey through emotions, feelings, and love.
