I don’t have a quirky intro for you right now. It’s a Saturday morning with my boyfriend’s two kids. One kid is at hockey practice with said boyfriend, the other is sitting on the couch trying desperately to annoy me with the most obnoxious games she can find. Just another Saturday on a “kids weekend,” but I’m determined to catch up on work and share out amazing music, so let’s hop to starting with “Apocalypse Horse” from ttypes.

Something about the title of this song and the artwork that comes with it had me thinking that this was a metal song. It is not. In fact, ttypes is an indie rock band with an infectious and light yet powerful sound. I was instantly hooked by the strong piano that kicks off this song, but it was the vocals that really lifted me up into the clouds. Like I mentioned, there’s something light but lush about the vocals. They layer over the traditional indie rock sound so perfectly and create a sound that is all-encompassing. There’s a subtle complex genius in the lyrics of this song that left me as perplexed as satisfied. Long story short, ttypes, the solo project of Grand Rapids, Michigan songwriter Tim Krauss, is the kind of act that, after just one listen to one song, will leave you wanting so much more, so check it out and dig into some of ttypes’ other music out there. It’s a perfect way to kick off your Saturday!
