I need music that will keep me awake and keep me going this morning. When I hit play on “Still Not Loving” from Simia Sapiens, I worried that this may not be the track for me today but, as the song continued on, I realized that this was just what I needed.
Simia Sapiens is a stoner-punk band from Switzerland, and their new song, “Still Not Loving,” is a testament to their creativity and power. The beginning of this song is super slow-moving and almost more atmospheric than actual music. Like I mentioned, it’s not quite the vibe I was feeling this morning, but after the first few seconds, this band slams you with their powerful sound, and they instantly caught my attention. The way this song goes from the ambient intro to the power of the anthemic chorus shouldn’t work. It shouldn’t make sense because the contrast is so stark, but something about Simia Sapiens makes it all make sense. Although you never quite get that ambient silence again in this track, there’s something subtle in the background that relates back to the calm nature of the beginning of this song, while everything else seems to be going at warp speed. “Still Not Loving” is four and a half minutes long and each one of those minutes is filled with something new and unique. This is a song that makes you think as much as it makes you feel and it will absolutely leave you completely enamored with Simia Sapiens.
