I don’t know why, but something about this band name, song title, and even artwork screamed drama to me. It screams dark and dreary drama, and, although upbeat pop-punk jams have been hitting the spot thus far this morning, something about this track was drawing me in, even if it meant my listening habits for the day taking a turn.
“Unrequited” from Dreams To Sell definitely isn’t as boppy as what I had been listening to all morning, but it’s also not as dramatic as I thought it would be. There are lush layers of everything from emo to shoegaze that are stacked up against an almost melancholy and chill kind of vibe, creating a soundscape that is so very easy to get lost in. I know this is going to be an obscure reference, but this song instantly reminded me of Vendetta Red without the screaming. This song twists and turns through many of these layers, giving you a look at a million different intricacies as you bury yourself in Dreams To Sell’s world. My favorite part of this song was the way that it was so easy to get lost in “Unrequited,” but, at the same time, it made me think and perked me up as I tried to push through yet another moment of pure exhaustion.
