Girl at the Rock Shows

I don’t really have a quirky intro for you right now. I’m just plugging away at work and feeling accomplished and motivated. Although taking a break to check out some new music runs the risk of me losing that motivation, I’m willing to chance it because my gut is saying that I just have to check out “stay inside” from Molars right now.

Molars are a Midwest-style emo band, but they are not from the Midwest. In fact, they are from all the way over in Nottingham, England, but they have really nailed the Midwest emo vibe in their song “stay inside”. There’s something so cool, calm, and collected about this track, but there’s also this super raw, gritty, and vulnerable edge to it. Although there are numerous comparisons that could be made when it comes to this song, ranging from PUP to Jeff Rosenstock to Tiny Moving Parts, it was the subtle influence of bands like The 1975 that really hooked me. There’s just a slight glimmer of commercialized indie pop that is laced into Molars’ sound, which really makes them and this song in particular stand out. Just when you think you have this band and this song figured out, they throw a curve ball so make sure you listen to this song all the way through for a cool twist.
