I am ridiculously tired today. Last night’s show went late and, when I got home, I had loads of photos to go through. To say I’m dragging would be an understatement but, fortunately, I have “Crucible,” the debut wingle from Withoutend , to give me the swift kick in the butt that I needed to buckle down and get work done today.
You can call Withoutend a prog metal band. You could call them a math rock band. Experimental, metal– you could call them a million things, but, at the end of the day and after listening to this debut single, all you can really call them is Withoutend. This song lasts just over four minutes and, within those four minutes, you really get to see how innovative this brand-spankin’ new band is. There are elements of all of the aforementioned styles woven into their powerful sound. It’s an intense song, but it stops short of being blistering or overwhelming. Although there’s a lot going on throughout the track, I love how Withoutend has a very crisp and clean sound that makes it easy to follow everything happening. There are no vocals here, which means no lyrics. If you know me, you know I love lyrics, and typically that’s what hooks me with new music, but every line of notes that you follow throughout this song gives you a story. So, sure, there are no words here, but there is definitely feeling and a clear storyline, which is just the cherry on top of this insanely amazing track.
