It’s been just over a month since we traveled to Mermaid Island to check out “Freaks,” and I honestly miss it. I miss the energy and the comfort that I got from that anthemic bop, and I’m so in need of a burst of energy this morning, so let’s see if this band, Mermaid Island, can do it all over again with “Perfectly Happy.”
The second single from Mermaid Island’s upcoming album, “Perfectly Happy” made me instantly feel, well, “Perfectly Happy.” It’s nother anthemic bop much like “Freaks” but seems to come with a slightly snarkier kind of attitude (which was speaking to my soul this morning). I really like the subject matter of this song. It’s about self-sabotage and how it’s a pattern that is so easy to fall into. Perfect example: I’m absolutely exhausted right now, but truthfully, I did it to myself. This song doesn’t judge me for that decision or the fact that, yet again, it’s a struggle to get moving this morning. Instead, Mermaid Island reminds me that I’m not alone and that, truthfully, this is just part of life. Think of it as a bit of a selfish pity-party if you want, but I love this song so much and am so glad that this is how I’m starting my Tuesday.
