Although I got hooked on this band because of their quirky name, I quickly became addicted because of their sound and songs like “Routine’s A Drug.” It doesn’t always work that way. Sometimes I will see an epic band name, but after listening to some music from said band, it becomes quite clear that all of the creativity was put into said name. That’s not at all the case with Brew Berrymore, and their new song “Routine’s A Drug” is proof of it.
I feel personally attacked by the name of this song and, as I fell in love with the words that make up this track, felt even more attacked, but I loved every minute of it. This song is a wake-up call. A reminder that, although you may be on a constant grind, it doesn’t have to be mundane, and it’s okay to get tired and want more every once in a while. I love the energy that comes through this track as if urging you to snap out of the blur of a grind and try to find the excitement in life, even if you have to get creative about it. As someone who definitely finds solace in a comfort zone, I felt like “Routine’s A Drug” challenged that. It made me want to try something new while giving me the sense that everything is going to be okay even if today is just a “normal day.” Brew Berrymore is a truly powerful band and I’ve loved everything I’ve heard from them thus far but “Routine’s A Drug” is definitely my favorite so far and I can’t wait to see what else this band has up their sleeves!
