I fell in love with Ian McFarland when I heard “Trial By Fire.” That song was a bit calmer than I go for, but it was a track that I instantly fell head over heels for and one that I go back to frequently. Life is crazy, and I feel like there’s just so much music out there that I want to hear and dig into, but at the end of the day, there’s just not enough time. I promise to dig into more tracks from Ian McFarland, but life got in the way–until now. I was excited when I saw his name come across my email again with his new song “Perfect Skin.”

This song feels a bit more playful than “Trial By Fire” did but it has that signature Ian McFarland sound behind it. It’s an infectious and chill bop but with a tongue-in-cheek kind of punk attitude about it. It’s a song about how we all try and be something we aren’t at some point or another. It’s a tale as old as time, I know, but there’s something just so genuine about the way this track approaches the topic. Instead of judging you for changing yourself to be something different, it seems to lean into the idea that it’s just something that happens but, at the end of the day, as long as you go back to yourself, you’ll be just fine. Add in the super fun video that comes with this track and you are left with an anthemic classic that will surely get stuck in your head as much as it gets stuck in your heart.
