The name of this song makes no sense to me, but that’s what drew me in. I’ll be honest, I’m a sucker for senseless song titles. I think it goes back to the years of the early 2000s, when pop-punk bands were writing some of the deepest music I have ever heard, but tagging them with names that were nothing short of hilarious. Sure, “The Reason I Changed My Wallpaper Engine” is what pulled me into SquallOfYourSilence’s worl,d but I think I’m going to go ahead and move here after hearing this song.
There’s a slight sense of panic and chaos throughout this song, which makes sense as it’s a track about the uncertainty of life and how, although things can get scary, you just have to keep on going. It’s a message that I think we all need now more than ever. Things are uncertain to say the least, but I found a sense of comfort and solace in the intensity that comes from this track. Although it’s definitely an abrasive and aggressive song, there’s something tender about some of the vocals and the way those more tender words interact with the grittier screams that come through, really conveys such a sense of depth that it’s impossible not to get lost in it all. I don’t know much about SquallOfYourSilence, but I know that after listening to “The Reason I Changed My Wallpaper Engine,” I want to learn more about this band.
