My Tuesday is not going as smoothly as I would have hoped for. It’s been a morning of putting out fires at my day job while trying to keep up with everything else and, although it’s only nine in the morning, I feel like I’ve already worked a full day and am ready for my show tonight. We aren’t there yet. I still have a full day of work ahead of me followed by an evening full of work and cleaning at home. I don’t know if I’m going to make it but I hope that by kicking my day off with oh, hooray’s new song “A TRULY GREAT MAN,” I may stand at least a little chance of making it.
“A TRULY GREAT MAN” was written by oh, horray after they got laid off from a job. Although I’ve never been in that space, I can only imagine how dark things can get and I love how this song reflects that. There’s feelings of desperation and loss throughout this song but what really hooked me was the defiant energy that comes through in some of the angstier moments of this three minute song. The track starts off with an almost Wonder Years kind of emo-leaning pop-punk sound but, after about a minute and a half, everything changes and this track turns into a rage-filled song that will calm the most restless soul. Although you can feel the angst, there’s still something powerfully beautiful about everything in this song making it one of those tracks that will fit for even the moodiest of days meaning it’s perfect for me today and will surely help me get through the rest of it.
