I went a little too hard last night. I was just so wired from the show that, by the time I got home, I wasn’t ready to go to bed, so, instead, I made the fatal mistake of meeting up with some friends at “the vortex.” “The vortex” is just the neighborhood bar, but we call it “the vortex” because, once you set foot in there, it’s as if time doesn’t exist, and last night was a perfect example of that. I stepped inside around 10:30 PM, but within the blink of an eye, it was 12AM, and I was rushing out the door to try and take advantage of the little time I had left to sleep before work. I am paying the price for it right now, but will not let that stop me from spending today checking out and sharing some amazing new music with you, so let’s just jump right into the day, starting with “Golden Hour” from Weather Room.
This song is about feeling awkward at your age. I can relate to that, especially with this epic hangover I’m currently nursing. At 36 years old, maybe going out on a Tuesday night isn’t quite the right thing to do. It’s definitely not what my peers are doing. They were probably at home with their kids, getting a good night’s rest or brain-rotting on the couch. That being said, “Golden Hour” reminds you that time is fleeting and, for me, it made me realize that, sure, most of my friends weren’t doing what I was doing last night, but I don’t regret it for a second. The beauty in this song is only matched by the emotion that comes with it. It’s a song that can feel a little heavy if you let your brain go down that route, but overall, it’s an optimistic outlook on life. A reminder to stay present, be true to yourself, and appreciate the people you surround yourself with and the places that you go.
