Happy Friday! We’ve made it! It was both a long and short week somehow. I feel like I got a lot done, but now that it’s Friday, I feel like I have no clue where the week went. I’m ready to end the week on a high note, which means I’m going to fill it with some amazing new music, starting with “No One Wins” from The Absent.

I feel like nu-metal gets a bad rap, but it’s bands like The Absent that will bring it back and make it better than ever. Their new song “No One Wins” is an instant nu-metal classic. With nods to bands like Marilyn Manson, Korn, and Slipknot, this song is powerful and intense. It’s a complete rager full of angst and aggression, but it’s not chaotic. The organization and curation of the rage in this song are absolutely flawless, making it a song with a nice flow, even though it is nothing short of insane in terms of the power behind it. I really like how things get more and more intense throughout this nearly four-minute-long song. Just when you think the song has reached an apex, The Absent keeps the climb going before letting the track fall dramatically back into something still just as intense but with a more tender approach. Nu-metal is making a comeback, whether you’re ready for it or not, and I, for one, am excited to see where this genre goes and how bands like The Absent bring it back to life.
