How do you think a crab would wear a cape? Would it be over the entire shell? Or just the back part? Would it be able to carry a sceptre? Would it have a monocole? Okay, I’ve probably already lost you, but when reading the band name CrabLord, this is the image that popped in my head. This really has nothing to do with their new song “Aware,” but it was fun to let my mind wander for a hot minute!
“Aware” is a single off of CrabLord’s EP ‘Collision.’ I haven’t heard the rest of the EP yet, but I know that, after just one listen to this blistering song, I can’t wait to hear more. This song is punk through and through, but I feel like some of the guitarwork and tones throughout this quick, two-minute song lean into an almost-grunge vein. It’s subtle, but I swear, it’s there. Whether or not you catch onto that subtlety, there’s so much to love in this song, from the super intriguing and almost genre-defying instrumentation to the emotive words that go from strong to desperate in the blink of an eye. CrabLord is more than just a funny image in my mind; this is a band that I absolutely have my eyes on as we move into a new year.
