Did you make a New Year’s resolution? I honestly did not. I hate the idea of resolutions on New Year’s because I feel like it just sets me up for failure and that’s such a terrible way to kick off a new year. That being said, I do want to make a few tweaks to how I live my life. Not so much hard rules to live by this year but more things to think about and be aware of and one of those is to not give in to corporate greed which makes “Kings & Queens” from The Hong Kong Dollars a perfect song to check out this early in the new year.

“Kings & Queens” is about corporate greed. I really don’t feel the need to expand on that because the Hong Kong Dollars does such a great job of doing so in this nearly four-minute long song. I love how punchy this song. It’s definitely punk and has a modern twist but there’s something so perfectly retro about it. It feels like The Hong Kong Dollars really aren’t over thinking anything and you can feel their passion and heart within every beat of this track. Fast and furious is the name of the game and the band brings an insane amount of energy to this track to match that. “Kings & Queens” is the kind of song that makes you feel sweat rolling down your back and has you smelling the faintest hint of stale beer from your favorite dive bar. Being from London, England, I don’t know when or if I’ll get a chance to see The Hong Kong Dollars live but just listening to “Kings & Queens” put me in the middle of one of their live shows and that helps me from being too bummed about them not being from anywhere near me.
