Girl at the Rock Shows

Going to concerts doesn’t feel right. Sharing out songs doesn’t feel right. Honestly, nothing feels right. My city is hurting and I’ve put all of my energy into putting my boots to the ground and trying to document just how amazing this community is. There’s no end in sight. There’s no end until ICE is out of Minneapolis and, until then, nothing is going to feel right. I don’t know when I will be to a show again. I don’t know when I’ll be able to just sit at home and have a relaxing day or when I’ll be able to get through a work day without getting emotional and distracted by the destruction happening around me. I don’t know when everything will get back to normal. I’m not sharing singles out today in an effort to feel normal because feeling normal feels like such a foreign thought right now. I’m sharing out singles today as an effort to find a little sense of peace within all of the madness happening around us and in an effort to try and give you all a few bright spots to focus on while we are out there fighting the bad guys.

“How Are You Feeling?” from We Are Not Robots is such a perfect song for today. It’s not just because of the name of this band or the name of the song but it’s because of this track in general. “How Are You Feeling?” seems to have taken all of the feelings in my head right now, the good, the bad, and the ugly, and wrangled them all up into this explosive three and a half minute long song. It’s a gritty alt-rock anthem with pop-punk leanings about the numbness that comes with burnout. To say that I’ve been feeling a bit burnt out would be an understatement but this song seemed to instantly give me the strength and energy that I need to get through another day while addressing the manic, messy, aggressive, and wounded world we are all living in. It’s powerful but it’s beautiful. It’s raw but it’s tender. “How Are You Feeling?” from We Are Not Robots is one of those songs that seems to have come into my life at just the perfect time. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by everything like I am, this is the song for you this morning.
