I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again- Codefendants do not need my press. In my mind, this is a huge band that could get any press they want but are still sending me their new singles and, honestly, they’re just too good to not share out. Case in point? “Rivals”– Codefendants’ new song done with The D.O.C.
Codefendants is a band that dabbles between many worlds. Most notable, they seem to dabble between a more reggae-styled hip-hop world and one with a bit more of a punk edge. “Rivals” brings their love and influence of hip-hop to the forefront with the help of hip-hop legend The D.O.C. (who is known for his collaborations with N.W.A., Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre., and so many more iconic hip-hop and rap acts). Add in Codefendants’ vocalist Sam King’s (of Get Dead) breezy yet intense energy, the quick words of Julio “Ceschi” Ramos and the quirky creativity of NOFX mastermind Fat Mike and you are left with “Rivals”– a perfectly, politically charged anthem that should be played from the rooftops on a nightly basis. Codefendants will be releasing their sophomore album ‘LIFERS’ on April 3rd so, if you like what you hear here, I urge you to check out their other albums out there and brace yourself for this new album.
