I saw so much live music over the weekend at Big Turn Music Fest in Red Wing, MN. Honestly, it’s almost overwhelming to try and look back at the weekend and let it all soak in. I wish I had more time to do just that but the wheel keeps on turning, and new music continues to come across my desk so, instead of dwelling on the weekend, let’s jump right into a new week and get it started off right with “subtitles. on” from subtitles.

“subtitles. on” starts off super slow and somber. It truthfully wasn’t quite what I was looking for this morning as I need music that wakes me up and gets me motivated to get to work but something in my gut said to stick with it. I found myself getting lost in the tender vocals that lead the beginning of the track. I let the emotional words sink right into my core and, just when I felt like I was about to drift off to a beautiful dreamland, subtitles. changed the game on me. It’s not a super drastic change. You still get subtitles.’s signature brand of heartfelt emotion and raw vulnerability but the band jumps in and backs this more tender side of this group’s music in a way that really amplifies everything. It amplifies the sound (obviously) but also seems to emphasize the message behind the track. Long story short, this is the kind of song that you have to stick with until the end. Even if you hear the beginning and think this isn’t for you, I urge you to stick with it because the second half of this track takes that peaceful beauty and turn it into something impossible to ignore.
