I don’t have anything for you this morning. It’s another day of the grind where I’m just counting down the minutes until I can get to a show tonight. I’m hoping that filling my day with new music will help the time pass a bit quicker so let’s just jump right into it starting with “Tokyo Ghost” from Black and White Rewrite.
I love songs that are based around a true story because I feel like it makes the lyrics just a bit more vivid and, in turn, my daydreams that much more real. “Tokyo Ghost” is the true story about when the bassists of Black and White Rewrite arrived in Tokyo at 1am and everything was closed. In my mind, this creates such an haunting image and I love how there’s a slight eerie feeling to this song to match that but there’s also a triumphant energy to this song that had me dancing in a seemingly abandoned airport in my mind. Okay, maybe the daydream won’t be as vivid for you but, even so, this song will hook you. There’s a strong feeling of pop-punk nostalgia in this song that took me back to an old-school The Used and My Chemical Romance sound but with a slight bounciness that leaned into an almost The Maine kind of infectious energy. Just when I thought I had this band and song figured out, Black and White Rewrite hit me with a moment of angst and aggression that caught me off guard as much as it left me delighted. Whether you’re in the mood to daydream or just want a solid song, “Tokyo Ghost” is the track for you this morning.
