Girl at the Rock Shows

I know that I always like to get super deep with songs. I like to find a way to relate to them and tend to get a bit dramatic about what a song means to me. That’s the power of music and music is the way I heal. That being said, sometimes you can listen to a song that means very little to you personally but grabs your attention and just takes you away from anything serious or too “real.” That is absolutely the case when it comes to “Beer Belly Blues” from Mr.Fatty.

The beginning of this song has an almost Hotel Books air of seriousness but, within seconds, whirling guitars take over and shoot this song into a land of fun and whimsy. Okay, maybe whimsy isn’t the right word but this is a super fun song and, although I say that this song isn’t super “real,” it has lyrics that are painfully relatable. So why isn’t that the focus for me when it comes to “Beer Belly Blues”? Honestly, I don’t know but I can tell you that there’s just something about the overall tone of this song that made me forget everything. It made want to just get lost in the music rather than analyze any feelings that may be brought up by latching into the words. To me, this song is bright and playful. To you, this song may hit a bit too close to home or cause a very cathartic kind of feeling. Either way, I’m willing to bet you’ll fall in love with Mr.Fatty and “Beer Belly Blues” on your first listen.
