Girl at the Rock Shows

I left my lunch on the counter at home. Honestly, it wasn’t a super exciting lunch so maybe it was a subconscious thing and I knew what I was doing when I left it behind but it also has me frustrated. Full disclosure, I was home super early from the show last night meaning I got a full six hours of sleep (which, for me, is a feat) so I’m not sure how or why I left my lunch on the counter other than the fact that, at times, I can be an “AIR HEAD.” Okay, this story has very little to do with this song from The Whispering Trees but I got your attention, didn’t I? If not, have no fear, this song will absolutely reach out and grab you.

This song is not heavy. It’s not intense or frantic. It’s more beautiful and calm and it is absolutely perfect. This song was written and recorded in the Deep South of Mississippi. I’ve never been to that part of the country but I feel like this setting can be heard and felt throughout this three minute anthem. “AIR HEAD” is about how when you get knocked down, there’s literally nowhere else to go back up. It’s a rise from the ashes kind of song which, I know, is a dime a dozen these days but there’s something unique about what The Whispering Trees does with it. Sure, there’s that feeling of optimism and triumph throughout this song that you would expect from a song with this message behind it but there’s also this almost appreciation for the hard times that can be felt throughout the song. I’m not going to say that there are moments of pessimism throughout this song but, at times, the tone just feels a bit more understanding and comforting. I think more songs about this subject matter should feature the reality that a rise after a fall is not perfect. It has it’s ups and downs, it’s dynamics and it’s low points. That’ what I got from this song and that’s what makes it so damn perfect.
